Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)
About the Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)
All UNSW students completing program requirements in and from Semester 1, 2010 will receive an AHEGS on graduation.
The AHEGS provides a description of the nature, level, context and status of studies completed. It is only issued on completion of an award, so differs from an academic transcript which can be issued at various stages of a student’s career. Its purpose is to assist in recognition of Australian qualifications and promote international mobility and professional recognition of graduates.
The AHEGS conforms to nationally agreed specifications approved by the then Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). It consists of five sections, plus certification as follows;
Section 1: The Graduate.
Section 2: The Award.
Section 3: Awarding Institution
Section 4: Graduate’s Academic Achievements.
Section 5: Description of the Australian Higher Education System.
The AHEGS is compiled to summarise information that is factual and relevant at the time. It is date-stamped to indicate the date of issue.
Background information on the AHEGS is available from the website:

The AHEGS and UNSW Advantage
Combined with an academic transcript, the listing of achievements outside formal study provides a distinctive benefit to UNSW graduates by awarding official recognition to those leadership activities promoted under the UNSW banner that could be seen to enhance the development of graduate attributes.
UNSW Advantage assess co-curricular activities and awards against a set of eligibility criteria. To be eligible for inclusion as a Special Achievement in Section 4 of the AHEGS, an activity must be shown to help participants develop the graduate attributes of leadership, professional skills and global citizenship. It must also include a minimum of 20 hours commitment.
There are over 350 co-curricular activities currently recognised by UNSW Advantage, examples include; mentoring, student representative participation on recognised UNSW committees, leadership programs and community volunteering.
For more information about co-curricular activities offered under UNSW Advantage see the website https://student.unsw.edu.au/node/80 .
For nomination guidelines and forms see https://student.unsw.edu.au/node/81.
Administering Student Co-curricular Activity Records
Student co-curricular ctivity records are maintained in the Co-Curricular Online Service (CCOS). UNSW staff requiring Administrator access to CCOS please email ahegs@unsw.edu.au to request system access. CCOS is at https://ccos.advantage.unsw.edu.au or is available via myUNSW > Academic Admin tab > Online Services menu > Co-curricular Statement link.
Staff Activity Providers use the CCOS to;
- create and approve records for students who have completed any of the provider's approved co-curricular activity offerings
- open an activity to students to permit online notification of completion
- approve online requests from students who have completed an activity offered by the provider.
Currently enrolled students can view and print an unofficial interim summary of their co-curricular activities using CCOS. Student access to the CCOS is via log in to myUNSW > My Student Profile tab > Online Service’s menu > Co-curricular Statement link.
